Poetry or Prose?

How do you seperate yourself from poetry and prose?

Hello All! I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. 🙂

In regards to poetry and prose, who says you have to seperate yourself? Sure, there is a line between the two, but in all honesty, Prose can be just as beautiful and opaque as poetry. All it takes is a mindset.

From poetry to prose; try to focus on the elements of the story. The plot, characters, setting, and research. This will help ground you rather than floating off on flowery tangents when they aren’t needed. If your struggling with inserting yourself into the story and feel poetic, write a scene or two with that talent and language to get it out of your system, then you can move onto more contructive things.

From prose to poetry; try to zoom in on certain aspects of your writing. If your story is stuck in your head, or a particular character, use that motivation to channel your poetic abilities. I often find forcing myself to switch from first person to third often removes my mind from one thing and places it in another. Think about feelings as well, how’d you react to a situation in your story or how you feel towards a certain character.

These are just my tactics, everyone is different, but I hope these are helpful 🙂
